The Wood Daffodil
The Wood Daffodil
Down beneath the large chestnut tree,
Where do you lie, wood daffodil?
Oh! There I see you among the shrubs,
Your velvet petals are soft to feel.
Leaning in the cool shade among the reeds,
Dainty flower, you flutter in the mellow breeze ------
In all of your adorable sprightliness
You are too gorgeous to please.
Lying sun-kissed with a slender stalk,
Your smile is radiant on the golden countenance.
Butterflies play with you, flower
And fly away in woods, dark and dense.
Beneath the dark hazel bushes, the rabbits come out
Of their burrows and frisky merrily--
Around you, the loveliest child of flowers
Your sweet fragrance pervades as you sway happily.
Goodbye, dear woodland flower
I'm walking back to my home, along the winding pathway through the woods,
I wish I could stay like you, daffodil,
Frolicking amidst the wonders of the woods.
