The Human Excuse
The Human Excuse
I cry,
I hate,
I catch innocence in my bait;
I'm rotten,
I'm evil,
I'm the wicked one who is evil;
I make mistakes,
I make them again,
Though this time, I only feign;
I drown,
I burn,
But I am too terrified to run;
My laugh is sinister,
My smile is aberrant,
My heart, too black and errant;
I kiss and tell,
I dishonour honest men,
And my excuse, is that I am only human.
