The Haunted Attic

The Haunted Attic

I heard that shrill cry of a child

Coming from that dark attic

When there was no one except me

In the home.

As I neared the wooden door of the attic,

I could hear someone laughing.

I was shuddering in fear.

Yet, I opened the door of the attic.

It was filled with darkness

And there was a mystic silence.

I switched on the lights to check

But, could find no one.

I thought I was hallucinating.

As and when I turned off the lights and opened the door of the attic to move towards my room,

I heard that shrill cry of the child again.

Before, I could close the door of the attic,

I felt as if someone was clasping my hand.

I tried my best to get away from the place but could not move even a bit.

Suddenly, I heard a child calling out my name aloud and asking,

'Anu, would you mind playing with me?'
