The Dessert

I see my mom, baking something relishing

Probably cookies or some cake topped with chocolate icing

I sniff around the place like a hungry and tempted cat

I peep into her creation, wondering, I ask “What is that?”

“It is for dessert, something I haven’t tried a while,

A delicious one, I believe, so wait to taste it at the right time!

It is in the cooker, all good things to those who wait,

Be ready as I lure you with this mouth-watering bait” my mother said.

Oh boy, I had a problem, an intense one

I couldn’t keep my patience to something that wasn’t yet done

Minutes and more minutes, oh I couldn’t hold the fire

Out of fuel to control, I ask “How much longer?!”

“I just started, dear, my work might steal some time

But, my little critic, all artists delay for a while

To shoot out the best, and make sure they are ready for the test

They must be better than the rest” chuckled she.

It took almost an hour, but she was ready at last

I speculated “Couldn’t she finish a bit fast?”

“Dessert is at the ready, come and taste this beauty!”

I could no longer hold the snake inside me!

“This is the marvelous Choco-creation, Homemade Idly cake

It took some while, to set my hands to bake

But, good lord, it turned out fascinating!

Look, kids aren’t it so alluring?!” Said, mommy

It was a thrilling ride, through the wondrous Choco-land!

I was able to behold the beautiful treasure in my hand!

It was round, and brown, and chocolate-filled in the center

I never knew chocolate possessed great power!

The chocolate sauce and chips completed this dessert,

With a few moments gone, the dish was over!

We shared this formulation with other families and friends,

I said at last, “Love you mom, till the end!”
