The Chosen One

The Chosen One

3 mins
420

His wait was restless for the dawn to break

As he stood on the edge of the hill

For he would ride down the hill to battle, with the sun's first rays

The final one, he told himself, as her thoughts danced in his head

Clear blue eyes, strong yet kind

Nerves of steel and a heart of gold

The strongest knight in over a century they said

The chosen one to end the war,

The only one who can slay the enemy commander they said

A decade he had waged war with not a single scar

And now just the final enemy encampment remained

The valley of shadows, that is where he was, the devil himself

Many a tale the chosen one had heard of his evil, but none of his origin

Red eyes, filled with fury and rage they said

A black heart filled with hatred they said

They stopped at an inn for their final rest before the last march

The march for the valley of shadows

The inn that stirred new things in the chosen one's heart

For he had felt love for the first time

The moment he stepped in and heard the sound of her laughter

The sound that muted a decade of war cries

He swirled in the direction of her laughter and met her gaze

And he was instantly lost in her hazel eyes

Her rosy cheeks and her velvet hair

Her face, a sight that erased every bad thing he had ever seen

They danced and laughed and she whispered in his ear

"Come back to me my love, I will wait at this very inn"

And she was all he ever thought of

During the year long march to the valley of shadows

He now had a promise to keep, the promise to return back

Restless was he for the dawn to break

To end the war and ride back to the inn

To gaze upon her radiant face again and be lost in her enchanting eyes again

Anxious was he to be in her arms again

II

They rode down the hill as the sun rose behind them

His sword glinting, his eyes lit up

Light filled the valley of shadows and the haze lifted

As he rode in fury towards the devil himself

They battled for hours, fierce and brutal

The evil sword was mighty, the first ever to scar the valiant knight

The chosen one's sword shone with the light of love

As it pierced the enemies cold black heart

And finally, the war was over

The valley of shadows was filled with light

The sky above was now clear

Deafening cries of joy were all around

He started running for his horse

Faster than he rode towards the enemy

I am coming, my love! he thought

To be in your arms again and this time forever remain there

Then he saw her and stopped dead in his tracks

Her rosy cheeks were now pale and her hazel eyes were without light

Her white robe was now scarlet with her own blood

There she lay still among the dead

His wails of agony turned the sky gloomy and dark

His hatred crept into everyone who heard his cries

The shadows crawled back into the valley as the light left his heart

All bowed in fear when he finally stood up after his wailing stopped

His kind blue eyes were now glowing red

As they burned with rage and hatred

His heart was now black and his soul was now dark

The valley of shadows was born again with a new commander

III

Many a decade later there rose a hero again

The strongest knight in over a century they said

The chosen one to end the war,

The only one who can slay the enemy commander they said

And the tales of the evil enemy remained the same

Red eyes, filled with fury and rage they said

A black heart filled with hatred they said

They stopped at an inn for their final rest before the last march

The march for the valley of shadows

And there she was, waiting for the chosen one

Her mesmerizing laughter filled the inn as he walked in

The vixen smiled as he met her enchanting gaze

The vixen smiled as he marched off

To the valley of shadows, promising to return
