Ellessar And Evandel

Ellessar And Evandel

His failing feet trampled the lush green grass
It was the heart of an ancient forest
He had returned from the battlefield, but not without wounds alas
To survive he was doing his best

He stumbled and fell flat on the ground
Hunger eating him and his mouth was dry
All the forest about him whirled around
He could not afford even a cry

Then came a bright light and the haze lifted
He felt like a bird freed from its cage
To behold such a sight he was gifted
He was a knight but then felt like a sage

There she stood in a bright robe shimmering
Her eyes were not eyes but stars at night
Her hair was a cascade of gold glimmering
Tears rolled down his face, as he beheld her face so bright

"Who are you my lady, an angel?
Am I in heaven? Has my time ended?"
"Nay it hasn't dear knight, I am Evandel"
Her voice was music so beautifully blended

"You cannot be in any way human
Your sight has cured me, I am no longer weary
I have never in my life seen so fair a woman
But for your sighting, my life has been dreary"

"You have fought bravely knight Ellessar
Evil were the ones who wounded you
Only the body, the heart the could not scar
But it is now time for life anew"

And all went dark before his eyes
All the sound left his ears
Little did he know that of his bravery were to be sung many a hymn
That he would be remembered through all the coming years

For the coming years, travellers told strange tales at the inn
They did not argue when people laughed at them
Heeding them no more than trash in the bins
They knew they had seen a sight worthier than amy gem

They had seen a brave knight and a lady fairer than light
The bravest and fairest in all land
Both spirits glowing bright
In the woods they had seen Ellessar and Evandel, walking hand in hand.
