The Canvas
The Canvas
Today you crossed my mind
A long suppressed memory
So I drew a hasty sketch
In black and white
I drew your smiling face
Tousled hair, mischievous grin
Perhaps I saw some innocence
In all the happy memories it did bring
Then came the shades of grey
The shattering of expectations
Empty words, shallow thoughts
Half hearted actions
Regrets and repentance
Superficial ties, waiting to snap
The void after every meeting
After each thought was laid bare
Finally I colo
ured it
And filled it with the background
That formed your truth, your values
Realized I had nothing left in common
With the one I drew from memory
You watched me smiling from the page
And as I smiled back, I realised
We changed so much, you and I
A splash of color on each other's canvas
Already stained with deeper hues
Our brush strokes but left a tiny imprint
Vague, indecisive, trivial
We faded away so fast and easy
That its hard to believe anymore
It ever meant anything at all
