The Butterflies
The Butterflies
Remember what you said when we first met?
"I get butterflies in my stomach when I see you."
But now,
I've caught those butterflies,
locked them in a cage,
and put that cage in my heart.
And wherever I go,
I take the cage with me,
and those butterflies fly in me.
They remind me of you,
they remind me of "us".
Those butterflies and us,
beside the seaside,
on golden sand,
under the dark skies,
During moonlit nights.
Two young hearts,
You and I
with rainbows and butterflies.
But slowly, these butterflies will die,
because I've locked them in a cage
and this cage will rot,
inside my lonely, broken heart.
And you too can't keep the cage,
Cause you don't have space,
To nurture these butterflies.
So they will forever stay inside me,
And will vanish,
When I vanish,
And you vanish too.
