Taking A Sabbatical
Taking A Sabbatical
Having invested way too much time,
But gotten very little in return.
The unwritten pages of my work,
I have decided to burn.
Much ink was to be used,
Many more words were to be typed.
But I cannot help but think, though I may be wrong,
That writing is hopelessly over-hyped.
Poets and authors are no exception,
We all have to earn a living,
A hyper-competitive world awaits us,
Which is sadly unforgiving.
It is very easy to say,
That the pen is mightier than the sword,
But we have to provide a roof over our head and food on our plate,
Not everyone can bill by the word.
And yet I reserve to myself the right,
To take back my words as and when I may,
You can call me a hypocrite,
But people will say what they want as they always say.
