Cousins

Like in many other families,

Our Ganesh Chaturthi is a collective celebration,

A time to pray as well as catch up,

With our near and dear ones on a festive occasion.

At our ancestral house in Usgaon,

Our extended family got together,

To seek the blessings of the Lord,

And create moments and memories to be cherished forever.

It is true that we do not meet too often,

Though we may not be of the same age,

But we are firmly united,

By the indissoluble bonds of blood and marriage.

And even if work and higher studies,

Has forced us to live apart,

Dispersed across the world we may be,

Separated by distance but not in heart.

Some known to us since our childhood,

Others through the ties of matrimony,

Our family, like a river, keeps getting stronger,

With the confluence of each new tributary.

In the evening as we reluctantly left for our homes,

A poignant end to an eventful day,

A faint smile lingered on our faces,

Knowing that in times of need,

a helping hand is only a phone call away.

Until next year or hopefully before,

With many new things to talk about and share,

The fact remains that cousins are like stars,

You don't always see them but you know they're always there.
