Pen To Paper
Pen To Paper
As I put pen to paper
Struggling to make mere words appear
Beautiful and real
As though they may be not the words of norm
But of god
In the morning I started
And put pen to paper
Waiting for inspiration
To strike
One day I said to myself
This time I will write
A poem full of wit and humour, in spite
Of the constant distractions,
I’ll use my pen’s might
And start the fight
Towards inspiration
Willing it to strike
I know it won’t be easy
And for sure it’ll make me queasy
But I won’t give up
Nay I’ll say yup
Bring it on, oh lord
Give me a literary sword
One I can swing at the demons
Of vocabulary and rhyme
And slather them in slime
And on and on I climb
This mountain of discovery
I have too much on my mind
Thoughts best left behind
Of friends and foes
Neither who know of my woes
And who make me feel
That I’d much rather be alone
Than cry over mashed peas
Oh! What a sad and lonely world it is
Without love and friendship, you are amiss
In life and know not the greatest treasures
Which await you in huge measures
All you need is a map
To help you cross the gap
Between the known and the unknown
For it is in the latter that you need to seek
The secrets that you keep
Do not be shy or meek
For that will get you nowhere;
No, you need guts and courage
Not a weak mirage
Go into the great beyond
The road not taken
Uncharted territory, new skies and seas
Discover endlessly
Inside and out
For there is plenty to be felt
Plenty to be heard
And plenty to be seen
Knowledge is power
Truth is a weapon and a curse
Wisdom is attained through age
Do not cower
Be a lion
Get out of your cage!
