Monochromatic
Monochromatic
My world is monochromatic, we are all grey
No white knights in shining armor
No black demons sent to devour
Righteously indignant, believers and ignorance
We are all heroes here, we are all villains
Our silent condoning feels like compliance
Trained since childhood to spot the difference
Empathy is not a subject we teach
Bridging divides that run so deep
We are told not to hate, but not shown how to love
We are taught how to debate, but not how to converse
We have an Elon Musk and a Mark Zuckerberg
Centuries later still, no more Da Vinci’s are birth
Intelligence without humanity has made this world grey
Greed without clarity has led us so far astray
I wonder what the Medici’s would think of the rich today
They gave us a Renaissance era, our rich still steal our pay!
My world is monochromatic, on the inside
Rainbows of acceptance we now call pride
Steps towards progress, but in which direction
People are people, why make any distinction
My world is monochromatic, our actions are good or bad
Inequality systematic, blind justice is all we’ve had
First impressions, the color of one’s skin
Second only to, what’s your religion
The handshake that followed was a bit too late
Our minds made up straight out of the gate
We measure intellect, not growth of the soul
We are taught to recollect, not make it our own
Our love affair with colors, is almost romantic
But beneath the surface, my world is monochromatic!
