Me And The 52 Week Competition

Me And The 52 Week Competition

When I came across the 52 week competition,

I explored writing, all of it - a poetic rendition,

Day to day events I chose, to be my inspiration,

I even wrote about Life and Motivation!!

The first milestone was to reach the 13th posting,

This I did with ease, without any fretting,

What started as a casual attempt at writing,

Became my passion, voicing thoughts was very interesting.

Then came the " Author of the Week" nomination,

It was a competition within the 52 Week Competition,

The poem with the maximum votes would be declared the winner,

It was actually tested how good I was as a propogator !!

I posted my poems on all my social media accounts,

Facebook, Instagram and multiple WhatsApp chats,

Family and friends became the unwilling hosts,

None were spared from my weekly poetic posts.

Everytime I urged them to read and then Like,

After a few attempts I knew it was a futile exercise,

While One on One I received a lot of appreciation,

Only a few took the effort to click the like button.

For the number of likes, my profile page, I often checked,

The focus shifted from writing to getting acknowledged,

The frustration got to me and the enthusiasm was low,

So many things to say, but the words wouldn't flow.

Then I decided that I wouldn't run the literary race,

Leave it for the others, allow them to outpace,

After all I had taken up the challenge, only to have some fun,

With every poem I wrote, in my mind I had already won.

I had to ensure that I posted without a break for 52 weeks,

Eloquently express matters, which I wanted to speak,

I wished to progress from abstracts to sonnets,

So took the chance to explore the various genres.

So far I have written about 25 and have the fire to go on,

I wish to thank my friends for the encouragement,

And my well wishes for the genuine comments,

After all it was only because of them that I kept the faith and carried on.
