Just Another Story
Just Another Story
With glasses on her nose
And messy hair
There once lived a girl
And they called her ‘Crazy Curls’
Grandma told her to never think of studying the law
It’s a living made out of misdemeanor and fraud
But dad said “It’s alright, kid!
Granny said the same about doctors until uncle Harry went and became one
So, it just shows the general disregard for the law and western medicine”
Crazy Curls met her doctor’s daughter at the hospital next day
And she said that
The kids are all messed up
Because the teachers didn’t work hard enough
Crazy Curls would realize later
All it meant
Was that the grass
Is always greener
On the other plot
So, Crazy Curls
Wore her favorite green sweater
And visited the old lady next door
The nice old lady often gave her food
And told stories about the neighborhood
That day she told Crazy Curls
About the pretty white house on the corner
She said that it was such a shame
A big wealthy house but they only had two little girls
And of course, the mother was to blame
Because we don’t believe in science
Or anything that makes sense
Crazy Curls just felt her heart drop
Daddy had said she can get all that she dreams
Despite how it seems
And she wondered that night
If it ever got too much
If she was ever not enough
Would he fly her away?
To a better place
The next summer
They called her ‘Green Sweater Girl’
Because she wore her favorite sweater
Throughout the winter
But for someone named Green Sweater Girl
She wasn’t very bitter
She didn’t have a plan for becoming rich
And she failed a test at school
So, she felt like a loser
The lady next door stayed in her bed now
They said she was nearing her end
And Crazy Curls really needed a friend
So, she just watched a girl play
On the other side of the tracks
The wrong side, the bad part of the vicinity, the side on the back
But daddy said she can get all that she dreams
Despite how it seemed
And she wondered now and then
If it ever got too much
If she was ever not enough
Would he fly her away?
To a better place
Summers came and went
The tenants upstairs didn’t pay their rent
Crazy Curls no longer lived in her bubble
They said she was going crazy, getting into trouble
All these evils they told her about
But she heard all these stories now
They weren’t devils of the past
Just because we had all these laws
She still had the same messy hair
She outgrew her favorite sweater
They still called her ‘green sweater girl’
Because that’s just how it works
And daddy said she can get all that she dreams
Despite how it seems
There was already too much to take
They said it would only get tough
And she could never be enough
She no longer dreamed of a better place
Dad made sure she had her safe space
But the world outside was just the same
Oh, it was such a shame
