It has been a long day, my love,

Licking lollipops and tossing wrappers about,
Dancing in the wet streets, barefooted and half-naked,
How can I forget your mischievous smiles of joy?
The punishments that followed such episodes,
We dashed to school every morning
hand in hand,
Feeling excited about the prospects of tomorrow,
Your big brother, James, always dissed me,
He thought I was a terrible influence on you.
How wrong he was then and now!
I have been true to my feelings about you,
We hitched bus rides, hiding in the back,
To avoid the stingy and scarred conductor,
Who pulled our ears hard over unpaid bus fares,
The kind intervention of the JBT bus driver,
Always interceded on our behalf,

After school, we had moved on,
Lived separate lives for years,
Tucked away in unhappy marriages,
Always weeping and hidden from each other,
Our hearts longed for a reunion,
Our love has endured the sands of time,
Now that we have tied the knot on this long day,
Forget the bitterness of yesterday, and

Let our happiness transcend the universe.
