The Dance of Shadows

I see shadows in a forgotten, and cold alley,

Where the sunlight never falls.

Toss and snuggle in the breeze,

And incoherent muttering on the walls.

They speak of the past lives wilted,

Through this dark and narrow space,

A world of love and hate, joy and sorrow,

Laughter and shame.

They whisper of the hopes that withered.

And the dreams that never came true,

Hearts that broke, and souls that strayed,

Human lives that wound up in a stew.

They whisper about the crimes committed.

Here in the gloom of secrecy,

Of murders committed, of women being wronged.

Children were taken away from their homes.

They whisper of things that evil men do.

Shameless men dressed as men of God,

During the day, they preach about the man from Nazareth,

At night, these men visit brothels and bars,

In this remote and desolate place.

Yet the alley also whispers good things,

The act of kindness and unselfish love.

Of hope and faith that never falters,

A human spirit that is never defeated.

They whispered to the souls that rose,

Above the darkness and sin,

Of those who fought and triumphed over fate,

And discovered a better life within.

Listen to the shadows' dance,

In this rats- infested and forgotten alley,

And learn the lessons they teach.

Of good and evil, joy and pain.
