In the Shadows He Hides
In the Shadows He Hides
In the shadows, he hides,
Making not a single sound,
In the night he raids,
The pantry and my grounds.
I can feel him,
His eyes on my back,
I can sense him,
His presence in my lodge,
But when the day breaks,
He is nowhere to be found,
Not a single clue he leaves,
Yet he is somewhere around.
Who on earth is he,
Enjoying my hospitality,
This uninvited border,
Elusive, a mystery.
Yesterday he left for me,
A present under the table,
A twitching tiny tail it was,
Right next to my purple sandal.
Was this a thank-you gift,
Was he leaving forever,
Or is it just a token present,
Until we meet next summer.
He wishes to be unseen,
And I am glad to let him be,
My mystery guest unveiled,
The lizard whom I named Terry.
