In Sync With The Chaos Within

In Sync With The Chaos Within

2 mins 311 2 mins 311

I sit by the French window

Leaning into the glass pane

My cheek flattening against the even surface

Sensing a flux in temperature

Its coolness against my warmth

Its smoothness against my suppleness

The tired eyes then fall upon the busy road

As my reflection transposes onto a thousand other travellers

My calm face and demeanour; a stark contrast to their agitated faces

Honking recklessly, waiting and wanting

Drenched in the rains, their patience flickering

 I sit by the window

Holding close to me, a hot cup of tea

I see my own eyes

Those dark almond-hued pupils

That stubborn scar my brother gifted me on my fifth birthday

Those bushy brows, which I have grown to love

And that smile

Slightly upturn, towards the end

And then back to the frustrated visages

With beads of perspiration dripping by the second

As if standing-in for the sand-clock

Testing their patience

I see through the window

A sea of humanity

Honking recklessly, waiting

For the moment of their lives

Lights switching from red to yellow

Hands reaching out for the gear

Anxiously waiting for a change in sign

A twist in their fate

Which can push their luck

Steer their destiny

I feel a silken curl, loosen from my unkempt bun

Sliding down my crown

Brushing past my cheeks

Playing with my earrings

Twining and turning

I see the majestic white steam

Emerging from the red mug

Rising slowly, to the tunes of the invisible snake-charmer

Holding it close to my bosom

My finger feeling the perfect curve of its mouth and the arch of the handle

I see through the window

A sea of humanity

The cacophony of their windscreen wipers growing louder

Now zooming past each other

Unmindfully escaping through pretentious corners

Smirking their way out of the jigsaw puzzle

Out of this chaos

Out of this insanity

As if they have been delivered

After years of penance

A sense of relief enveloping their visage

But here I sit

In complete tranquillity

Not a sound to be heard

Not a word to be hurled

Just I, me, myself

And my hot cup of tea

Trying to find some peace within

My brain abuzz with activity

Giving wings to my thoughts

As they unleash themselves into the infinite universe
