I Never Needed Anyone

You think I need you?

I don't blame you, I thought I did too.

But then everyone left and I realized,

I never needed anyone, is what's true.

The gloom of your presence,

Was deeper than that of your absence could ever be.

We think we need everyone until we leave them and see.

Why would I need you?

Why would I need the clouds of darkness you bring?

You're not the only person who can sadden me, 

Then why do you think you're special or anything?

I don't want to be around people.

I want to be around joy.

Why would I let you control how I feel, 

Why would I want to be your toy? 

We hold on, fearing the damage letting go will do. 

Just let go, there's no absence worse than what you're going through. 

In isolation, lies inner peace. 

If you think I need you. Try leaving, please.

I'm not a loner, 

I'm delighted to be around people who love me.

But without the despair you bring, I feel free.
