I Cradled Love
I Cradled Love
I cradled love in my arms;
I put his needs before mine and
Filled the cracks in his wall with myself;
I stood before him like
A cattle stands before its butcher
And every time he raised his hand,
I remained numb with a smile
For I loved him with every thing I was;
Yet, my palms are now dressed in soot
And vanishing smoke fills my sight
For the love I cradled in my arms
Blinded my eyes and grew
Into a ball of fire,
Finally exploding into thin air
And all that stands now is
Awaiting a cleansing rain.
