Human Frailty

The gods sit smugly in their 

Splendour secure in the 

Knowledge of their virtuosity 

In all that is good....

The devils below are equally 

Confident of their prowess 

In all that is bad....

But what does one say 

Of the unfortunate human?

Neither here nor there -

A mixture of God and Beast;

Pulled apart by 

Opposing, conflicting forces-

Happy one moment, sad the next, 

Uncertain, unsure, 

Ever struggling, ever groping, 

Hoping, despairing, 

Laughing, weeping, 

Full of life one instant 

And dying slowly in the next..

Legends could be written 

On the endeavours of Man-

And it is these very 

Brave though futile attempts 

To scale the heights 

Or sink in the depths 

That makes human frailty 

In a way greater 

Than even the completeness 

Of perfection or otherwise.
