 How Far

I had to embark on a journey, but the destination's far away,
How much farther still, I wonder, night's dark veil to slay?
I yearned to behold the light, but how much of the evening's left to stay?
I longed to feel that athrill, but how much hesitation remains?
I wanted to set these thoughts free, but how much fear still grips my pen?

I'll speak what's just and fair, but how much indifference still prevails?
I'll give you all the colors, but how many rainbows can my hands still hold?
I've not even touched my rights, and still, I wonder how many chances are left,
I've chosen silence, for who knows what secrets eyes can read?

I've chosen myself later, but how much self-aversion still remains?
I've chosen music every time, but how many seasons are left to hear?
I've seen many gardens laid to waste, and still, I wonder how many more await,
The anklets that yearn to be heard, how many artists are left to create?

If my heart forgets all and sways, how many nights are still to come?
