Hopes for Peace
Hopes for Peace
When olive branches disintegrate
And doves no longer sore through the sky,
White poppies are trampled by men in boots,
That is when we know
The safest place is no longer safe.
"We want peace, not war!'
I hear them chant,
But their song can't be heard.
How is it just that elders declare war,
But the youngsters are forced to fight it
And risk their lives like never before.
The most dangerous times awaiting.
Everywhere are dead bodies,
The results of thousands of deadly rifles,
The miseries of millions of families
And the losses of a dreaded country
That may never come back.
