What is bleak?

Egomania? Malevolence?

Savagery? Inhumanity?

Thinking of death

When it’s imminent?

Almost given up on

The state of society?

Having turned into

A raging raving cynic?

 

Is it really a matter of pride -

That we are at the top

Of this disastrous food chain?

Destructive and dismissive,

For the sake of immense power.

Is it indeed wrong to say?

That in all of time, we truly are

The cruelest of animals to walk

The surface of this planet.

 

What pride, what power?

When did our intent get so dour?
