Giving Up Stuff
Giving Up Stuff
There is a strong philosophical theme
Of giving up stuff: possessions, toys.
Living a simple life. How does it feel
When I say, “give up technology
Throw your cell phone, tablet and/or laptop
Away? A kick in the guts? How could I?
They’re part of my existence, my life
My being; my identity
I feel your pain, your disdain
I am speaking hypothetically
A moment's pause, perhaps?
A time to wonder, ponder?
Possessing things can improve our life
Yes! They can; until they intrude
Possessing things elevates our sense of self-importance
Our sense of self-value. Yes? Is this a priori for the better?
are you introducing value statements into the equation.
(Have they not always been there)? No, I’m not seeking to argue.
I’m seeking to explore and examine the issue.
The phrase, “giving up stuff” is selective and personal. Yes?
As personal and selective as how much and nature
Of the stuff being given up, and why? Why?
That would be another question
