FREE & FAIR (Week 3; Theme: Independence)
Fame and money come much later in life, after toil
To have a fearless mind, it is a mental construct –
We must realize that not all things are wrapped in tin foil
There lie more under the heavens, priceless, so teachers instruct.
To be free and to be fair, I have aimed all my life –
Freedom from the rat-race, people hurrying past to gain material heights
I have portioned my life, cut up into segments, with a knife
Childhood, adolescence and maturity – memories on lonesome nights.
To live in dependence under someone, fair or foul
Is anathema to me, as it bespeaks of infirmity
To have and enjoy independence separates me from a ghoul
Through my pen, to ensure an independent mind, I aspire longevity
Where the mind is without fear, to that air of freedom
Should all of us belong, where fighters laid their lives in martyrdom.
