Footprints In The Sand
Footprints In The Sand
One day, God and I,
In the sandy desert,
Decided to take a walk.
He turned out to be
A very amiable companion.
We had a long talk.
We talked of the times
Life had been kind,
Moments I treasured at the back of my mind.
We talked of the times,
I had been hurt,
Treated like dirt, someone with no worth.
At one point, I asked,
"God, please don't be mad,
But I must ask,
Why is it that when I was revisiting,
The moments when I was sad,
I couldn't see your footprints in the sand.
I don't mean to be mean,
But there are some who compare,
You to a ghost,
Someone who people keep talking about,
But is rarely eard or seen.
Why did you desert,
Me in this barren desert,
When I needed you the most?"
God laughed at me and replied,
"Let them think and say whatever they want,
But while you were reminiscing,
About all the times you cried,
When you were angry, lonely, and heartbroken,
Remember, you were not forgotten,
By me; but the reason,
You couldn't see my footprints in the sand,
Was because though I did not wipe your tears,
I was carrying you on my shoulders."
