Dust to Dust
Dust to Dust
They see us
We hide
We see them
They hide.
Round of bullet
Break of dawn
I can hear them
Sitting on my lawn.
Now I sit retired
Ages ago I fought
I can still hear them
Clearly in my thoughts.
War, war, war
We kept chanting
To return home
We never stopped fighting
My friends died
Battle killed them
Few left handicapped
By memories of unspoken
I still get scared
Wake up in middle of night
Sometimes I feel proud
Of all the battles and fight.
What I used to be
A soldier and a hero
Two capes I wore
When I fought at ground zero
