COVID-19: Not Your Average Apocalypse

COVID-19 is not your average apocalypse.

In fact, it's not even an apocalypse;

At least, not in the literal sense of it.

It was no volcano or earthquake or tsunami,

And most of us apocalypse lovers were glad it wasn't,

Because that would have been really uncontrollable

For wannabe saviours like us.

Also, it did not bring any of those

Brainless zombies from Hollywood,

Which, I am sure, many like me

Wanted it to happen so badly,

Because we live in our little fantasy worlds,

Where we are saving millions from the zombies,

And being an "Alice" in our own "Zombieland".

This would have been really easy to handle-

Killing zombies looks like so much fun!

It was also not an AI-apocalypse.

Surely, a lot of us wanted a "Rise Of The Machines".

Nor was it an Alien apocalypse,

That would have been really nightmarish!

Oh, how I wished for all that to happen!

And I still wish that one day

We crazy Hollywood lovers'

Apocalypse dreams would come true.

But COVID-19 was an apocalypse nonetheless,

For all those whose families or friends or acquaintances

Died of this mysterious disease.

It did not end the world,

But it ended the world for so many.

A lot of us were fortunate enough

To be able to have stayed with our families,

Safe from the pandemic outside,

In such apocalyptic times.

How fortunate we were

To at least have access to the digital media,

To have not starved to death.

But so many have faced unrecoverable loses,

Both familial and financial-

COVID-19 was truly an apocalypse for them.

COVID-19 engulfed the year 2020 completely.

It became a cursed year in the history of humankind.

We, the fortunate ones, started a trend

Of calling ourselves "2020 survivor"

Because we were fortunate enough

To have not faced any of those.

Oh yes, we did survive our mental illness pandemic though,

Which is no less daunting than the COVID-19 pandemic.

For many of us who faced the mental apocalypse,

COVID-19 was truly an apocalypse.

It's 2021 now,

Things started getting better eventually;

Certainly proves that 2020 was really cursed after all.

The scientists finally invented the vaccine,

Businesses are getting back on track,

We are finally able to go out,

Our mental health is getting better.

We are truly enjoying our little post-apocalyptic world,

Ignorant of the possible future apocalypses.

But COVID-19 surely taught us one thing,

That life is uncertain after all,

And we have got only one life

To do whatever we want and need to do,

And we can never know

What tomorrow holds for any of us.

COVID-19 is not your average apocalypse.

It is an apocalypse

That you probably never imagined

In your whole life.
