By The Train

I heard the harsh, metallic shriek

Followed by two bright lights bringing

The path ahead to light and the passengers

Waiting drowsily to life.

And I get into the carriage,

With no elbow fights and take a seat

By the windows waiting for the sunrise,

Smiling at the calm before the storm starts.

Once again the engine takes off,

And the train plunges moving at an excruciating pace,

Against the rough path causing turbulence.

But it only took a little patience to overcome them.

And as the clock ticks away passengers build up,

At each stop some get on and others off.

Some become my friends and stay

Until the journey ends, but some leave too soon.

They smiled at me in a simple way,

And those simple kind acts made my day.

But there were those that gave me a glare,

And caused tension in my smooth route.

And the stop arrives where I have to get off,

If only I could go back and begin once more.

But on this one-way track you can’t go back.

Once you drive by it becomes the past.
