And Then She Forgot To Fly
And Then She Forgot To Fly
When I was but a wee,
I had a lovebird called She,
My granny had bought her for me,
I loved her and she loved me.
When I got her she was in a cage,
She never liked it at her age,
And would look at me,
With eyes brimming with tears,
Pleading and cajoling me with tears.
She used to hop around in the cage,
Looking for openings from the cage
When I opened it to give her food
She would peck at me and not the food.
But I would never let her out,
Being a child for fear of losing her,
But as I grew older and maybe wiser
I saw her love to fly,
To be free in the open sky.
But by now She was a friend.
And I got her a lover,
Another lovebird called He,
They both hopped in their beautiful cage,
But Was it beautiful or a Cage?
I still don't know at this age.
One day out of curiosity,
And love for them,
I left the cage open.
I was shocked to see
That my friend She,
Never looked at the open door,
Never chirped with joy.
I then realized with a heavy heart,
That is a child's emotion,
I had robbed them of motion,
And then She forgot to fly.
