A Teen Dream Nation

A Teen Dream Nation

We're in the land of namaste and I bow to you all.

The land of sweets and a little bad cholesterol.

We're in the land of jugaads for problems big or small.

The land of fabrics - from easy going cotton to that pashmina shawl.

We're in the land of festivals that go all around the year.

The land of saas-bahu sporting that big fat drop of tear.

We're in the land of joint families; they're closer than they appear.

The land of kings and queens, with legends more than queer.

It's still the same land, but as I stop to think.

Maybe we're going something wrong with every step and every blink.

The words we write to inspire are somehow blotching back to ink.

We tell ourselves we're clearly afloat, even as we helplessly sink.

The scenic beauty's breathtaking, and so is the pollution.

People drink, drive and don't survive for their new year's resolution.

We grow as intellectuals, but as humans where is the evolution?

Just criticizing the governments gone and to come, doesn't bring about a revolution.

Why does justice served on a table need a bribe under it?

Girls take their own decisions; it's a crime they comment.

Your neighbour scored more, society questions your wit.

With this height and this colour, I'm such a misfit.

We get offended about things we know we'll forget the next day.

We'll listen to others talk as long as they say what we say.

We're definitely better than this; hate can't be all that we purvey.

We're waiting to carve a tomorrow, but where's the clay to shape our today?

We cannot stay anymore carefree and careless.

We're warriors but our quivers go empty if we stay aimless.

We cannot wait anymore for someone else to clean up our own mess.

Think, think again and act; don't play on that second guess.

Oh please don't say "chalta hai" and show it off.

Yes we can bring about change when you stop with that scoff.

Stop itemizing people; they're not your personal cast-off.

There's a nation to be reset while we're busy goofing off.

Listen up teens; looks like we're all that we can count on.

It isn't taking much time for these days to be forever gone.

We're a population of 243 million; we're surely not forlorn.

We can manage a few sleepless nights if it blesses us with a brighter dawn.

But you know what? This land belongs to us today. We are it's people today.

We're in the land of people who'll try and fail and fail and fail again until they succeed.

The land of people who'll believe in a new India as their only creed.

We're in the land of people, who taught us to fight for ourselves; fight to be freed.

The land of people, who'll learn to follow and will know to lead.
