A Proposal

A Proposal

'She won't come back', her friend said in a gentle tone,

Anguish and despair in eyes, he stood firm like a heavy stone.

He could bring the moon for her,

Or could ask the sun to set later,

But what he heard now was impossible to accord,

He stood numb, his heart was charred.

The day they had first met surmounted his mind,

He knew not what exactly he'd felt then, a lot of emotions combined.

Their story had blossomed since that day,

His feelings and love for her weren't easy to sway.

'I want to marry you', she had said to him a few days back,

'I wanna spend my life with you', he was taken aback.

No answers he had back then, insecure she could feel,

Commitment for a life, he was just not ready to deal.

He called her once to meet, saying it was urgent,

He waited for her to turn up, a lover's heart is fervent.

But Alas! imminent bad news shook him to the core,

The girl he loved and revered long in this world was now no more.

'She won't come back', the friend cried out loud,

A brutal accident took her away, contempt wrapped him in a shroud,

Was their journey destined to be this short?

A jolt of disdain and guilt occupied his thought.

'What if he'd said Yes then?' he recalled her smile,

The day she'd proposed him, her happiness knew no mile,

But now he knew that time together was limited for them,

A bouquet with a YES dropped down, he failed to proclaim.
