A Day To Make Merry

A Day To Make Merry

Households begin to stir to life

Bells are jingling in the air

Cooker whistles and swishing brooms in the background

And all of a sudden the foreground’s a noisy fair.

The newspaperman looks jollier today

A Santa Claus cap on his hardworking head

So does the milkman with his candy cane smile

Who ties around the bottle’s neck- a stocking red.

A stack of gifts waits under our tree

It stands tall in the corner of our living room

I rip apart the glossy wrapping and toss it

As my face breaks into a pine cone bloom

The streets are all lit up,

The trees adorned in fairy lights

With a red coat around my shoulders

I enjoy random snowball fights.

An Emirates craft glides across the sky

But I insist it was Rudolph ferrying Mr Claus

My eyes light up at all the sugar lining the shop windows

Having just stepped out, I run back for the candy floss.

Nutcrackers march the roads with me

Sugarplum fairies in the breeze flutter and dance

My eyes begin to sparkle with magic

Every bauble demands of me a second glance

Darkness falls, the church bells ring

The lights get brighter, the carolers sing

In a Christmas sweater and matching socks

I curl up on the couch before the idiot box!
