Mother-A Living Miracle
Mother-A Living Miracle
I think my mother has more than two hands
Every day I dream of her holding magic wands
Morning to evening I see her running errands
To her hardworking wrist, I could tie a thousand friendship bands.
Works all day and then sits up at night
To look after my scorching forehead
Worries about bruises and every mosquito bite
For days in a row, she can't even swallow bread.
Wakes up early and sleeps late at night
Yet finds time to solve every quarrel and fight
Never chooses what's easy; only that which is right
I may be tall but her love is taller in height.
Fans me to comfort on a hot summer day
Cuddles me to warmth on nights cold
I see her hair turn from black to grey
But in spirit, she never seems to grow old.
Sometimes she's strict, sometimes funny
Her sarcastic remarks make me feel like a bunny
For all these years I've seen she's sweeter than honey
Only she didn't abandon me when my nose was runny.
She sings aloud and happily dances
Cheering up the world around
After every mistake gives me a hundred more chances
In her presence, no one ever frowned.
She hardly seems to need any sleep
No problem is big enough to make her weep
She'll scale every mountain; no matter how steep
Her love can't be measured-it's ocean deep.
I see her sitting on a majestic throne
She wears a jewel-studded crown
She's one thing science can never clone
Her wit always makes the smartest frown.
When I was a baby, she stayed up to swing the cot
In school, she stayed up to revise what the teacher taught
To her, I extend my greatest salute
Her sweet voice rings in my ears like the melody of a flute.
She hides her pain and her tears
Works tirelessly day and night
Her presence is the end of all my fears
Nothing scares me when she hugs me tight.
All the world lies beneath her feet
To my eyes, she's always a soothing treat
I stare at her in awe; she stares back at me
We realize we're each other's reflection and exclaim--
"Let's go for a shopping spree. "
