Abstract Tragedy

Autumn's War Flower

Autumn's War Flower

I am awake, alive but my soul abreast with the departing winds

Since the day the lord declared war,

I tried with all my might,

And maybe with a little doubt too

Tolisten to the air raids, loud bells

And that chilling horn that blew time to time

I shrivelled between hope and doubt,

Myeyes now feeling too bare and dry

To see the dark pit and the bright luminous sky

My spectrum shifted; first slowly and then quite rapidly

The shrine had fallen, I could see

The houses turning to ash,

The grasses turning red instead of green;

Like the tress in autumn bursting.

The sky lit up with black bombs and in a split second,

Engulfing the ground with its yellow flames - I saw it all.

My mind was screaming but in my heart at that moment

It just looked like autumn

With its flaming bright colours and a touch of red everywhere

Now when I am conscious, I realise

Alas! It was blood.

My view sourly adjusted to the darkness around

My body dug in the bloodied mud six feet down

Six feet down for people to peer searching for survivors

Am a survivor?

With hands that spoke of cuts

And legs that felt deathly quiet

I couldn't move but my ears heard

The soft flowing sound of the ocean afar

And the frenzied-caught ships sounding distress of war

Hoping one day to see the other side of the ocean

To cross its boundary where the sun melted every afternoon

I closed my eyes, feeling all too tired

All the same

This dark pit for once gave me solace

Undisturbed for once,

I slept in peace.
