The Shadow
The Shadow
Flabbergasted I was
When I first noticed it.
It was my shadow.
The birds were on the way
Back to their dwellings.
It was dusk.
The shadow started from my toe
And lasted till infinity.
A bit amused, amazed and a bit afraid - I touched it.
It reciprocated.
I jumped, I ran, I hid -
Tried my level best
To get detached but no luck!
Eventually, perceived that
It will not depart.
Time flew and the bitter human tendency crept-in
I ceased to care about it anymore.
Grew up - learnt the 'taleem' of relations,
Friendships and acquaintances.
Lost! - Completely sold me in the world
Of mere illusions.
Laughed in the light, wept in the dark.
Kept the promises, shared the secrets.
I enjoyed, I suffered.
Felt the caprice with companions,
But learnt life in solitude.
Dumbstruck I was when the death arrived-
So much left to do, so little done..!
My dead body laid on the floor.
The shadow, still attached, accompanied...
