Flabbergasted I was

when I first noticed it.

It was my shadow.


The birds were on the way

back to their dwellings.

It was dusk.


The shadow started

from my toe,

lasted till infinity.


A bit amused, amazed and afraid -

I touched it. 

It reciprocated.


I jumped, I ran, I hid -

Tried my level best 

to get detached

but no luck!


Eventually, perceived -

It will not depart.


Time flew, the bitter human tendency crept-in -

I ceased to care about it anymore.


I Grew up - learnt the 'taleem' of relations,

friendships and acquaintances.


Lost! - Completely sold myself

in the world of mere illusions.


Laughed in the light, wept in the dark,

kept the promises, shared the secrets.


I enjoyed, I suffered.

Felt the caprice with companions

but learned life in solitude.


Dumbstruck I was when the death arrived-

so much left to do, so little done..!


My dead body laid on the floor -

The shadow, still attached, accompanied...
