Soulmates

It’s a day of jubilation & merriment,

And my heart throbbing with a sense of contentment,

With a blend of shyness, gay & pride,

Today, I’m fortunate my love, to be your bride.

Beautifully in the red sari, I’m draped,

Stealing glances of him, through my veil,

I smiled with the thought of how my life would be reshaped,

From a Dad’s princess to a nuptial female.

Adorning all the priceless ornaments,

I stand ready for all the commitments,

And with the fresh jasmine in my hair,

I’m all set to complete the pair.

They escorted me to the marriage hall,

Where the sacred chanting had begun their call,

I approached towards the stage where sat my man,

Who had promised me to accompany till the heaven,

Bound with a muckle of emotions,

I recalled the day, when just a ring fixed our relation.

With every round across that blazing fire,

I promise to be his, until I lie on the pyre,

As he tied that sacred knot,

From a lover to spouse, I had to wrought,

And with that smirch of red on my forehead,

We were declared as newlyweds.

He had stolen my soul and heart,

So today, I steal his name, for a new start,

I promise, “Your love & your joy is my only goal,

For I’m the body, you are the soul...”
