The Meeting

It had been 10 years since their last meeting. Yes,10 long years!!

Megha and Kitu were best friends since school days in Chandigarh.The fact that they were next door neighbours helped in making their friendship stronger.

Post high school, both decided to do their graduation in science from Delhi University. Both convinced their parents to let them stay at the college hostel instead of getting a rented flat in Delhi. The fact that they were together worked in their favour.

The three years spent in Delhi were the best years,sneaking out for parties with friends, dressing up, discussing boys, deliberating future plans along with studies, of course.

Finally the day arrived when they graduated. Both sets of proud parents attended their convocation ceremony.

A week after they came back to Chandigarh, Megha's father announced that her alliance has been fixed, the guy was an engineer working in the US. Kitu was shocked, all she knew was that they were planning to do their post graduation and were in the process of shortlisting colleges.

She confronted Megha who meekly accepted that she was being forced in to marriage by her parents, she was the eldest of three sisters,her father was about to retire in two years time, this was the best work around. Kitu didn't argue, there were no questions asked.

Within three months, Megha was married, her visa fixed and she was off to the US.

Kitu pursued her post graduation in systems and got a job with a prestigious tech firm in Bangalore. Kitu's parents moved to Bangalore with her after her father retired. Chandigarh was now a distant dream.

Megha was highly inaccessible, Kitu worried if she was fine, she would send her mails regularly. Megha would respond once in a while saying that she was fine and everything is ok. Kitu wished she could meet her.

One fine day a mail arrived from Megha stating that she was coming to Bangalore as her husband had some work and they could meet.

Kitu could not believe what she had read.

The meeting was finally happening.

She was overjoyed.
