She stood beside her funeral pyre and sobbed. As the years flashed back before her eyes.

There had been misunderstandings, fights, quarrels…but at the end of the day, both longed for each other’s company. They had started well. Were doing good. Developed Misunderstandings and animosities. But at the end craved for each other’s friendship.

This sweet and mischievous cycle had come to an end. Today, she is no more. The one with whom, Jassie had spent the sweetest as well as the darkest moments, is grief-stricken and she is crying her heart out.

Jassie and Richa had met for the first time in their University’s Orientation Programme. Richa was the first one to extend her hand to Jassie, which Jassie, then had held and planted their friendship tree. It was no different than a banyan tree. It had many roots but clung to only one for survival.

As the wood-cutters started striking the main root with their axes, coated with poison, the tree did shake and shiver. But did not fall off. Jassie was also sad, at the sight of all her well-wishers, grief-stricken with her death. And with every ritual, her earthly life was shortening. She was vanishing bit by bit. She wanted to console everybody, her parents, Richa and many others. But, how could she?

A couple of years, earlier, at the dusk. She was happily clicking selfies with Richa. She had found their shadow more appealing, while Richa was busy clicking selfies. Richa had rebuked “Jassie! Stop looking there. Look at the camera; FOCUS! This might be our last selfie…

Jassie woke up shivering and sweating. With her eyes wide open, she kept telling herself, “It was just a dream…!”. Just then, her phone started ringing.

It was Richa’s call – “Hi! Jassie, you still sleeping? Oh, come on! Get up and get ready fast. Am waiting… fast…We will click a selfie today… a last one please, right before the sunset… please … you cannot back out
