Everyone Already Knew

After the parking-lot hug incident, things became both easier… and more dangerous.
Easier because now there was no awkwardness left between us.
And dangerous because somehow, without us realizing it, the entire office had already started noticing us.
Not directly. Not openly.
But through small smiles. Small comments. The way people looked at us whenever we entered together.
Even my boss had started teasing indirectly.
One morning, I reached the office early like usual and sat outside waiting for her with my helmet beside me.
Suddenly, my boss came downstairs, looked at me, and smiled.
“You need office keys?” he asked casually.
Before I could even answer, he laughed softly and added, “Oh right… madam will come in some time.”
Then he smiled again and walked away.
I just sat there thinking, “What is happening?”
A few minutes later, she arrived.
I told her what happened, and she started laughing immediately.
After that, for a few days, we reduced our morning parking-lot talks because both of us realized people had already started connecting the dots.
But honestly… by then, it didn’t matter much anymore.
Without saying anything officially… we were already in a relationship.
Our routine had become fixed now.
Morning parking-lot talks. Quick rides before office. Late-night chats. Leaving office together whenever possible.
And somewhere in between all this… I had fallen completely for her.
One evening after office hours, we were walking toward the parking area when she suddenly came near my desk and said quietly,
“He’s messaging me again.”
I looked up. “Who?”
“My boyfriend… or maybe ex-boyfriend now,” she replied softly.
I stayed silent.
“He keeps asking me not to leave him.”
For a moment, I didn’t know what to say.
Then instinctively, I said, “Give me the phone. Let me talk to him.”
She immediately pulled the phone back before I could even touch it properly.
“No… leave it,” she said quickly.
That reaction surprised me slightly.
But honestly, I didn’t want to interfere too much in her personal matters, so I let it go.
Still, after that day, his calls became more frequent.
Many times while we were together, her phone would ring continuously.
And every single time… she would cut the call.
One night, after dinner, I was casually walking outside when my phone rang from an unknown number.
I picked up.
“Hello?”
For a second, there was silence.
Then suddenly a familiar voice came from the other side.
It was one of my old school friends.
We hadn’t spoken in years.
We talked casually for a few minutes about life, work, old memories…
And then suddenly he asked, “So… who’s the girl?”
My footsteps slowed down.
“What girl?” I asked carefully.
“The one I saw you with recently.”
I replied casually, “So what?”
He laughed awkwardly. “Nothing. Just asking.”
At that moment, I didn’t think much about it.
But later… I realized that call wasn’t random at all.
A few days later, after office hours, both of us were standing outside a small hotel near the road, talking casually like always.
Suddenly, her phone rang again.
Him.
She cut the call.
Again the phone rang.
Again she cut it.
Now she looked irritated.
And then, while she was looking down at her phone, one car slowly passed beside us and stopped a little ahead.
A tall, thin guy stepped out from the passenger side and started walking toward us quickly.
She froze.
“What does he want now…” she whispered nervously.
I looked at her and calmly said, “I think he’s coming here. Why don’t you ask him directly?”
The moment she turned and saw him properly…
her face changed completely.
And then another man stepped out from the driver’s side.
Heavy build. Aggressive face. The kind of person who looked ready for a fight even before speaking.
He walked directly toward me.
“What are you doing with her?” he asked aggressively.
I looked at him calmly and replied, “Talk to her. Not me.”
Immediately, she stepped in front of me protectively and said, “Talk to me. Don’t talk to him.”
That’s when I realized the second man was the boyfriend’s brother.
And suddenly, the entire atmosphere changed.
The brother looked at me angrily and said, “Just leave from here. Otherwise we’ll go to the police.”
Honestly speaking… I’m not a naturally brave person.
If someone talks loudly or aggressively, I usually avoid conflict.
And at that moment, even I got nervous.
I tried staying calm and replied, “We were just talking about office work.”
He immediately shouted, “Office work? At this time?”
Then he turned toward her angrily.
“At home everyone thinks you’re going to marry Raj. We already prepared everything. What exactly are you doing here?”
She stayed silent.
Then he looked back at me again and angrily said, “You leave.”
I looked at her.
And slowly…
she nodded.
