The Last Person I Loved - 13
The Day She Met My Family
After our proposal, life felt strangely peaceful.
Not perfect. Not magical.
Just… complete.
Now there was no confusion left between us.
No “maybe.” No hidden feelings. No unsaid emotions.
She was mine. And I was hers.
Of course, we still fought over stupid things.
Sometimes over late replies. Sometimes because I got jealous. Sometimes because she overthought everything.
But even our fights had comfort now.
Because deep inside… both of us knew we weren’t going anywhere.
Around that time, she started asking me one thing repeatedly.
“When will you introduce me to your parents?”
Honestly speaking… I wasn’t fully ready yet.
Not because I doubted her.
But because I wanted to become more stable first.
At that time my salary wasn’t great. I was still figuring out my career. And somewhere inside, I wanted to stand properly on my own feet before involving families completely.
But she was excited.
Very excited.
And when she decided something… there was honestly no escape from it.
Finally, we fixed a day.
December 24th.
Even today, I still remember that date clearly.
That morning, after finishing her school shift, she came to meet my family.
She came directly from school on her scooty.
She had already entered our society but somehow wasn't able to find my house.
So I walked toward her.
I took the scooty and drove it back with her sitting behind me.
When we reached home, I got down and walked inside first.
She followed me.
And then something happened that I still remember.
She was about to take her first step inside the house with her left foot.
But just before stepping in, she looked at me.
For a second, she stopped.
Maybe she remembered that this was her first step into my house.
She smiled slightly and changed her step.
She put her right foot inside first.
I don't know why, but that tiny moment stayed with me.
It was such a small thing.
But somehow… it felt special.
This wasn't just my house anymore.
It was the first time she was entering it as someone who was becoming a part of my family too.
She was wearing a white and orange dress.
Freshly cut hair. Simple earrings. And that same bright smile that could instantly calm my overthinking mind.
The moment I saw her walking toward the house…
my heartbeat genuinely became faster.
Not because I was scared of my family.
I already knew they would accept my decision.
I was nervous because this moment felt important.
Like two different parts of my life were finally meeting each other.
When she entered the house, my mother welcomed her warmly.
My father also greeted her politely.
Meanwhile, I was standing there awkwardly like some guest in my own house.
She looked completely comfortable.
Within minutes she had already started talking freely with my parents.
And honestly… that made me admire her even more.
I have always been shy.
Especially around new people.
But she had this natural confidence.
She could make conversations flow effortlessly.
My mother asked her about school, family, work, daily routine and everything else.
And she answered everything with a smile.
My father also started asking her about her family.
“What is your father’s name?”
She answered.
Then he asked about her mother.
And honestly…
I quietly smiled.
Because even after being together for so many months, I suddenly realized something embarrassing.
I didn't even know her parents' names properly. 🤣😅
I looked at her with a slightly guilty smile.
She noticed it.
“What?” she asked.
“Nothing,” I said, trying not to laugh.
But inside, I was thinking,
How did I manage to spend so many months with this girl and never ask such a basic thing?
At one point I was just quietly observing all of them and thinking:
“How did I actually get this girl?”
The best part?
She wasn’t pretending.
The girl sitting with my parents that day… was exactly the same girl I knew during late-night calls and parking-lot conversations.
Talkative. Confident. Warm-hearted.
After some time she left for home.
And the moment she walked out, my mother looked at me and smiled slightly.
Then she said:
“She’s beautiful. And very talkative.”
I immediately laughed.
“Yeah… that part is true.”
My family genuinely liked her.
And that made me unbelievably happy.
Because after losing peace so many times in life… sometimes small moments feel huge.
For the next few days, she kept asking me the same question again and again:
“So? What did your parents say about me?”
I kept teasing her intentionally.
“Hmmm… they said you talk too much.”
She would immediately get angry.
“Diku!”
And honestly… irritating her was one of my favorite hobbies.
At this point, life genuinely felt perfect.
We had love. We had dreams. We had plans.
And most importantly…
we had each other.
But maybe destiny gets uncomfortable when people become too happy.
Because slowly… life was preparing to test us in ways we never imagined.
