The Foxed Fox
The Foxed Fox
Once upon a time, a family of 7 sparrows were living happily in the best in the top of a mango tree. The jungle was a beautiful place where all the different animals lived amongst themselves. It was their natural habitat and thus the days were going on.
One day, the parent sparrows went to bring food for their babies. They found some worms in the nearby village from the silk hatcheries there. They realised it was a nice place where they could easily find food for their babies.
That day they also found a piece of bread leftover and thrown by the workers there. The mother collected it they came back home to their nest.
There was a cunning fox in the jungle who had set his eyes on the baby sparrows. He initially made friendship with the sparrows and tried to act nice to the sparrow family.
But all the time, his mind was hatching a plan to capture and eat the baby sparrows.
The parents were fooled by the fox's sweet words and though he was their friend. He assured them that the babies were safe with him and that he would protect them as his own. Little did they know his cunning intentions.
The parents came back with the bread and worms. They gave the bread to the fox and then fed their babies with the worms they brought.
This went on for a long time. The fox being lazy was getting food easily from the parent sparrows who brought bread for him every day.
Then came the day when the fox decided it was time for action. He was ready to eat a baby bird that day, having got bored of eating bread every day.
The parent sparrows as usual went to the village and came back with their booty.
And a shock for them... When the mother reached the best to feed her babies, she realised that something was amiss. She dropped the worms in the nest and saw that one of her babies was missing. She also realised that the remaining 4 babies were very quiet and not showing any interest to eat. They also seemed scared. The father sparrow asked the fox what the matter was. But the fox replied, "Oh, I don't know what the matter is. Not being too well, I was quietly sleeping at home."
The father realised that something was amiss as the fox was trying to hide his face and was not able to justify the missing baby.
Fully disappointed, the parent sparrows didn't know what to do. They cursed themselves for having trusted the fox. They had to pay a big price for having trusted an enemy.
The other bird friends of the sparrows tried to comfort them. They had advised the sparrows against trusting the fox buy to no avail.
Now, smart stork called for a meeting of all the birds. In the meeting, the wise stork gave them an idea on how to take revenge on the cunning fox. Thus ready with their plan, they returned to their homes.
The next day, the other friend birds of the sparrow family along with the father sparrow went again to the hatchery to collect worms and bread for the fox.
They came back from the village and told the fox about the boastful elephant who claimed to be the new king. The fox was upset and thought he was anyway a better and stronger animal and that he should be made the king of the jungle. He was very keen to meet the elephant and out his point forward and so he told the birds to take him there.
The birds convinced the fox to colour himself in blue before meeting the elephant. They promised to bring back a vat of blue colour from the village to colour him so as to convince the elephant that he was the special creature who was the new king. The foolish fox agreed to their plan.
The birds brought a vat of blue colour from the village and made the fox jump into it and colour himself. The fox was very proud of his new look.
Meanwhile, son of the other birds had found a hunters pit on the way to the elephants home. The birds planned to take the mean fox in the exact path of the pit and thus put an end to him.
The next day they took him through the exact way they had planned accompanied with pompous sound and music.
The fox being completely enamoured, felt pompous and proud. He couldn't recognise and realise the hunter's pit as he crossed it and thus fell into it.
And that was the end of the blue cunning fox.
The sparrows were happy that they could avenge the death of their dear baby. They thanked all their dear bird fraternity and went back home.
