The Emerald Heights

Credit goes to this school for making me what I'm at present. I started my work here as an English teacher to teach classes 5 & 6. My main job was to improve the basic grammar & vocabulary of children. I liked teaching all my students but enjoyed improving the weak students all the more. The patience which was required here was overbearing but the outcome was popularity amongst not only my students but parents as well.

Soon I got higher classes & our principal, Mrs. Sunita Singh gave me all the freedom to teach through my own techniques. Extremely happy & satisfied with my hard work , she gave me the extra responsibility of taking up the Cambridge classes. Now, this was a challenge as I had never thought that I could teach such high-level English to students. I worked hard & never failed my principal's expectations.

Another step forward was getting the responsibility of all sections of Class 10. The 12 years that I taught class 10 was truly the best years of my life. Interaction with students, their love & respect for me never made me realize that I was getting old . On days that I felt sick, I could find myself getting ready the next morning with the same energy to be off to school. From where this energy came, God only knows! But definitely the credit goes to my students who gave me the zeal to reach school in spite of any sickness.

I wished that I could continue teaching throughout my life but the future had something else stored for me. Certain incidents made most of the schools change their policies towards teachers. They were required to take up duties of the bus in charges, giving 2 hrs more on the bus to see that students are safe after they board the bus till they get down. My health did not permit me to this extra duty & I fell tremendously ill which led to my resignation.

Even today, after 3 years of leaving school, I miss teaching in Emerald Heights & wish I could have continued there.
