Operation Interplay Poly-math

 

“Computers are incredibly fast, accurate & stupid. Humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate & brilliant. Together, they are powerful beyond imagination.”

 

Year 2125 A.D.

In the far future, rapid Pollution, Green House effect & globalization had reduced the average lifespan of humans. To avoid this, Advance Artificial Intelligence Cybernetics Technology (AAICT), an international renowned organisation created a MicroModule Human Chip (MMHC). It was a small chip which would be fitted inside the human brain. By inducing a custom algorithm, this Chip could increase human strength & capabilities 10x times, adding more years into their life.

This proved to be a wonderful invention. The chip came as a boon to all the humans on earth. Using this chip, the organisation created Humanoids which proved to be a big asset in warfare. These Androids OR Humanoids did the work of 10 human soldiers, which proved them the best in tactical defence.

This Chip & all the others manufactured & the Humanoids were wirelessly connected to a SuperServer, SnowBell, or SB, which was owned by the AAICT & was created by the great mastermind Dr. Arthur James.

This server had an advanced algorithm, which was enabling it to update & modify its own software, thereby also updating the algorithms of all the connected MMHCs.

 

However, this was just the start of the disaster.

Somewhere in an Underground Lab

Commander Adrian Jacobs aka AJ, one of the best commanders in the army, was on a dangerous mission, names Operation Interplay. In fact, this mission, if successful, could change the entire present & all the future.

AJ was helping a Secret Group of scientists & researchers, who were conducting their experiments & analysis undisclosed to anyone.

“You sure about this, AJ?” Dr. Evan, the head scientist, asked him. “This may cost you your life…!”

“We have no other option left, Doctor...!” AJ answered back, “SB has already taken control of every working computer on this entire planet. The chip worked, but then, suddenly, it changed…! Every human on this earth who was using that chip started behaving weird…! Slowly their bodies started turning into vegetative state. The entire defence system, where we had used this technology, totally went against us. The Humanoids that were created using this chip as a processor inside them have now turned against us. SB updated their programs, & turned them against the entire mankind. All the major nuclear weapons, every single software controlling these weapons is now in control of this computer…! We created it, & now, it evolved on its own & has taken over us, taken over the entire mankind….! It has now prepared its own army, & has now started slaughtering humans…! A war has already started, but SB is winning it...!”

“That’s the reason we are doing this, AJ...!” he then moved the mechanical gears on the invention that he was secretly working on.

The Time Machine.

 

“Since years, we were researching on how to prepare a machine which will help us travel through time. We have now mastered the way of using time as a dimension. Travelling to future is a very ideal way to use this technology, however, travelling in past can be a lot more tedious & dangerous. Travelling in past can alter many things in the present as well as the coming future. We need to be more…” as he was listening to this conversation, suddenly AJ felt something.

Danger.

“Run...! We’re under attack…!” but it was too late.

A huge group of black humanoids stormed inside the lab. Using advanced LDGs (Laser Detection Guns), they started firing all around, injuring all the technicians & scientists. Another group of humanoids started advancing towards the Main Module Deck, the area where the Time Machine was kept.

“They want to destroy the Time Machine…!” Dr. Evan screamed.

“It’s a paradox…!” AJ shouted in between the firing, “We used the Time Machine & travelled in the past. We altered the past, creating a new timeline. The SuperServer came to know about this, as it must’ve noticed some change in its codes. That’s why it has send these humanoids to stop us from going in the past…!”

“In that case, we have very less time left…!” Dr. Evan said.

Both of them ran to the Main control panel. As the doctor arranged the mechanical gears & calculations on the panels, AJ injected himself with the I.V. liquid used to stabilize the heart rate & blood pressure during Time Travel.

“AJ, remember, you have to meet Dr. James, the person who had put forward this idea of creating the MMHCs in one of the Major conventions of AAICT in the past, almost 25 years ago…!” Dr. Evan instructed the Commander, “Go back & explain him all the consequences of the technology that he has prepared…! Stop him from doing all that he has done…! Once you alter the past, everything will be changed here…! If you stop him from creating the Microchips & the SuperServer in the past…no Humanoids will be present here...! Everything will different in the new timeline that you will create...! When you want to come back in the present, press the RED button on your wrist watch…! Good luck…!”

AJ ran towards the Time Machine. It looked like a huge barrel kept horizontally, with lots of wiring & power supply cords.

As soon as AJ entered in, a huge group of Humanoids stormed inside. Without warning, they started firing Laser bullets all around.

“AJ…. go inside & press the green button…! Close the lid immediately...! I’m sending an important message to you…! Due to the difference in time-”

AJ jumped inside just as one of the Humanoids tried to attack him. He didn’t hear what Dr. Evan had said about the message. He hastily closed the barrel door & strapped himself on the chair. Without wasting any time, AJ pressed the green button on the opposite wall.

At once he felt getting sucked somewhere. The sounds of the bullets outside slowly faded & it was replaced by a loud whistling sound of air. In a moment, with a great whooshing sound, AJ got pulled inside himself.

Year 2100 A.D.

In the next moment, AJ was in a long corridor, with low lights on the ceiling. Feeling dizzy, he grabbed the support of a wall and stood for some time. 

Returning to his senses, he looked around & saw it was the service corridor, just behind the main convention hall where the seminar was conducted. 

Pacing fast, he crossed the corridor and entered the main waiting lobby.

At one of the entry doors, he found the poster of the convention, which indicated Dr. James as the main speaker.

I need to update him about the future of the server, he thought.

As he entered the dark Main Convention Hall, in the illumination of the AV screen, he saw it was packed with scientists & researchers from various fields.

Suddenly, AJ staggered.

A Lab. Some Apparatus. A huge screen. Glass tubes & vessels all around. Red Alarm signals blaring. Some sort of Danger.

Everything just flashed before his eyes. What was that? Deja-vu…? Something from my past?

He had tried many times, but couldn’t remember his past.

In the darkened AV room, he easily spotted Dr. James. He was sitting on the front row.

Does he look familiar…?

I’ll inform him how bad his invention turns out to –

Suddenly he heard firing sounds. The presentation was stopped & lights were switched on. In an instant, a group of Black Humanoids entered the hall, firing their LDGs around on all the people. AJ ducked down in the attack. In the midst of all the commotion, he observed the Humanoids were firing at the audience, but they were searching for someone.

In an instant, he understood it.

These humanoids have come in the past to me. They know that I’ve come here to alter the timeline.

With the Black Humanoids still on his trail, he jolted out of the escape door & reached the basement.

AJ then moved towards the exit.

After the chaos, the doctor must’ve headed to his lab. I’ll reach there before –

Abruptly, he stopped.

The realisation hit him like a bullet.

If the SuperServer can know that I came in the past exactly at this point…then it must have clearly known where I will now be…at the Doctor’s lab. It is because somewhere it will be documented or seen that I have gone to meet the doctor. The SuperServer is very much advanced. It will search every available data in the past & will send the humanoids to attack me precisely at that point.

That’s a paradox.

Hell.

It means…the humanoids must be present at the exit point of this basement…. ready to kill me.

 

AJ was almost trapped in the basement.

I need to move stealthily.

Hiding between cars, AJ ran till the staircase. There were no CCTVs inside the stairwell. Sprinting, he came on the upper level.

The convention hall was empty. AJ went till the podium & searched for notes from Dr. James. On one of the letterheads, he found the doctor’s Lab address.

The Lab was a 20 minutes walking distance from his current location.

Using his navigation device, he plotted a path away from the public road which were equipped with CCTVs & stealthily moved out of the Convention Building.

Avoiding as many people as he can & hiding away from all Observation cameras and drones, AJ reached the lab.

Hacking the coordinates, AJ keyed in the password & opening the door, stormed in, expecting to see Dr. James inside. 

The lab was empty.

Suddenly, he saw another Metal door titled ‘AAICT – Restricted Entry’ at the end of the lab.

Feeling suspicious, AJ went to the door & entered inside.

It was a Biological Lab, filled with various safety jars containing some vicious liquid with certain medical apparatus.

Suddenly, AJ staggered.

A Lab. Some Apparatus. A huge screen. Glass tubes & vessels all around. Red Alarm signals blaring. Some sort of Danger.

Again the same vision. What was that? Deja-vu…?

Are these visions connected to my past...?

“How the hell did you enter inside...?" Suddenly he heard someone shouting from behind. 

AJ turned & saw the young man standing at the door.

"Dr. James..." AJ said looking at his name printed on the lab coat. "I need to speak with you...!" His lab coat had the name AAICT.

He looks familiar, AJ thought. I think I've seen him somewhere. 

 

"No.... That's not possible...!" Dr. James said as he heard the entire story from the future. "I am not doubting the time travel technology. But I do not believe that the server turned against the entire humanity...! I have used a human friendly bacterium for this process." the doctor said. 

“This bacterium finds out food by sending out a series of protoplasmic tubes that act as a transport network for nutrients. The clever thing is that it is able to map the optimal route between different pieces of food in order to create the most efficient way of transporting nutrients throughout the organism. This remarkable organism had already been used to navigate through mazes, calculate efficient networks, construct logical gates, and even in robot control. We are planning to develop a MicroModule Chip using this bacterial mould. This Chip, by inducing the right algorithm, could then increase the life span of humans, by increasing the efficiency of the human organs multifold.” Dr. James explained.

"But in the future, the Computer has turned against us. All the humans fitted with these MMHC have been destroyed. This computer created humanoids who travelled back in time to finish me…!” AJ replied.

“I have induced the self-evolving algorithm inside it. Using that, probably, I think the computer started thinking itself to be much more superior than humans. That’s why it evolved itself -”

Suddenly there was a huge blasting sound. Again, the black Humanoids entered inside the lab. Immediately, they tracked AJ & started firing towards him. However, they were very carefully avoiding any damage to the apparatus set up for the supercomputer.

“Let’s go…. Run…!” AJ screamed.

Both of them ran towards the rear side exit.

This is again a paradox. We did something in this timeline, which they found out in the future, & they came back in the past to stop us from doing it.

Shit.

Again, we’re entering a new timeline.

“The main lab is on the lower Basement level…!” Dr. James shouted, “Let’s go there…!”

Avoiding the humanoids, both of them ran to the basement.

As AJ ran, he saw an observation drone escaping out of the other side.

It has seen me. The humanoids will track me down. I need to do something very fast.

 

Sprinting, both of them entered the secret lab on the lower level.

It was then AJ saw it.

The apparatus, the lab, the huge screen, everything he had seen in his visions.

But why was it occurring to me?

“This is the main computer.” Dr. James said, “I had used the differential -”

“Destroy it, Doctor…!” AJ ordered him, even as he felt that he had been here earlier, “Put the algorithm & activate the self-destruct code inside it…! We don’t have much time...! The Humanoids will be here any moment…!”

Dr. James immediately started his work.

However, AJ felt something was wrong.

As Dr. James typed in the password, a message appeared on the huge screen.

“ACCESS DENIED”

Shocked, the doctor tried again.

Then AJ realised it.

“The server has upgraded itself…!” AJ almost cried out, “Understand, your SuperServer is running on the network clouds created by the bacteria. It only needs one change of code to upgrade itself. Right now, it has improved itself probably using a network code. That code was sent to the bacteria which eventually got induced inside the Server….!”

“The Humanoids…!” Dr. James now realised.

“Right…. those bastards came from the future.” AJ said, “The SuperServer came to know in the future that we will change the algorithm, so it instructed the humanoids to send the upgraded program to the bacterial nucleus. Cleverly, if it would have been through a network, your computers would have catched it, so it used the protoplasm inside the bacteria….!”

Hell.

Again, a paradox. Again an altered timeline.

“We should stop it right now…! Else it will gain control on all the electronic network & webs in this timeline…!” AJ said, “It will create a new timeline, where probably no humans could exist, not even me…!”

“But how…how should we do it…?” Dr. James said, “It’s not accepting any algorithm…! It won’t even allow me to….”

Suddenly, AJ received an incoming video message. Surprised, he then remembered he had carried his video messaging device accidentally with him, & before he entered the time machine, Dr. Evan had spoken about sending a video message.

As the video switched on, AJ saw the doctor running away from the Humanoids.

“AJ, I know you will get this video in an altered timeline. The humanoids will know you’re every move, & they will keep on altering the past to save the SuperServer. However, there is one thing which you may not know.” He paused for a while. “When we had created the MMHCs, we installed these inside the brains of every humans & everyone on earth was re-formed. The basic idea was to improve the functionality of the organs. Surprisingly, we had also installed this Chip inside a group of 10 supersoldiers. We wanted to study how it will enhance the defence services, but we failed miserably. All the soldiers turned into vegetative state. But, out of the 10 soldiers, only 9 got disintegrated. Only one soldier has survived. That soldier is…”

Suddenly the connection went off. One of the humanoids attacked the doctor from behind.

Shit.

Abruptly, the video started again.

“The 10^th Soldier is you…AJ…!” Dr. Evan screamed. “You are the only one amongst all the humans who survived this attack...! That’s the reason the SuperServer wants to kill you...! It knows you are a potential danger to him…! Note that you still have the MMHC installed inside your brain. You were the smartest amongst all the soldiers, AJ…! There is definitely something inside your brain which the Server knows, & that’s why its hunting you…! The humanoids came in this lab to kill you, not us….! Use the chip in your brain & destroy them…!” Dr. Evan screamed before the video went blank.

Now I understood the real thing.

There is a chip inside my brain. Nothing had happened to me in all this crisis.

It meant; my brain must have developed an anti-program for destroying this computer & must’ve stored that algorithm inside the chip.

Probably in the future, the server must've destroyed the lab. The entire world must have been vanished, and humanoids must have taken over the entire planet. Already the SuperServer had destroyed the earth, but after the current events, it will destroy all the occurrences. Possibly, it may even create an alternate timeline and send the humanoids further down in the past, to destroy me, when I was a kid, so that I will not exist in the present and the future. 

 

I had to take a decision.

 

“Connect me to the mainframe server right now…!” AJ ordered Dr. James, “Since I was re-formed with a MMHC, there is a small wire slot exactly on top of my forehead to insert a micro cable…!”

“AJ, doing this may kill you...! The server may just burn down the chip in an instant, & your brain may get fried…! You could loose your life…!” Dr. James warned.

“We need to stop the server…!” AJ exclaimed, “The entire past, present & Future is at risk. I’ve got to do this…! Connect me to the server fast...!” AJ said as he laid himself down on the long cradle chair.

“AJ, if we are successful in destroying this server, then everything will be re-setted back. All the new timelines created by the SuperServer will be eliminated, & you will bounce back into the future with a totally new timeline, where no sever will be created, & no humanoids will be born…! Everything will be totally different, & you won’t remember anything of the past...!” Dr James said as he started the server.

He then connected one end of the micro- cable to the Main Processing Unit inside the mainframe computer & the other end of the cable to the small slot on AJ’s forehead.

As soon as he started the server, a sequence of RED algorithms came up on the Huge Screen. Using a series of commands, the doctor typed in required codes.

However, the server was not allowing to connect.

Dr. James tried again, using a different code, trying to bypass the new security firewall created by the server to protect itself.

Still, no connection.

“Doctor, create a new proxy program using the variables of the security firewall. Try bypassing the firewall using that proxy. The server will think it’s a new upgrade program & will allow you to access it’s main frame data. Once you get access to it, immediately bind the inputs in the MMHC inside my brain with the computer…!” AJ instructed the doctor.

How the hell do I know all of this...?

Dr. James did what AJ told.

Immediately the server accepted the proxy. The doctor then accessed the main frame data & uploaded the algorithm inside AJ’s chip into it.

Almost instantly, a message popped up on the huge screen with an announcement:

“120 seconds for amalgamation”

 

AJ felt a huge string of pain inside his head. He couldn’t focus. The Chip was using his entire body energy to upload the data inside the server.

Suddenly, he felt something.

“Doctor, the humanoids are here…!” but it was too late.

The humanoids stormed inside, firing straight at AJ. However, he used his weapon & fired back at them. Bearing the terrible pain in his head, somehow, he tried firing back.

“60 seconds for amalgamation”

 

One of the humanoid pushed the Doctor aside & tried to stop the data transfer. It typed in all sorts of commands, but still the transfer didn’t stop.

Using his Laser weapons, AJ kept firing at all the droids that entered in the lab. Inspite of the pain in his head, he still aimed at each one, saving Dr. James & trying to avoid disconnecting the cord that was connected to his head.

“Amalgamation Complete…. Repeat…. Amalgamation Complete”

The moment the server announced this, all the humanoids stopped firing & looked at the main screen.

The pain in AJ’s head was so sharp, he lost all the strength in his body & collapsed on the cradle chair. Slowly his vision started diffusing.

In his diffused vision, he saw sparks coming out of the main frame computer. The humanoids tried to save it, but the sparks kept on coming.

Suddenly, AJ heard a faint blast, & a huge fire erupted from the processors. Dr. James disconnected the micro-cable from AJ’s head & dragged the cradle chair away from the destruction. AJ then saw in diffused vision all the humanoids collapsing down at one instant. The entire server & the huge screen came down with a huge explosion.

As Dr. James pushed the cradle chair away, AJ slowly started coming back to his senses.

The chip in his head was malfunctioned now, & AJ slowly started remembering all the things of his past.

He clearly remembered all his days of training & combats, how he had successfully fought all the droids & humanoids that were created by the SuperServer.

Prior to that, he was a professional, an expert scientist in softwares & networking. He had opted to re-form himself into a Super Soldier, & had himself volunteered to get the MMHC installed inside his brain.

He then remembered his memory was erased before the chip was installed.

And, he remembered his real name.

Dr. Arthur James.

 

What the hell? It means…. I am seeing my own past?

It’s a Paradox…!

Shit.

As Dr. Arthur James pushed away the cradle chair, totally unaware that he was pushing his future self, AJ then calculated the consequences.

He had created a totally new timeline, with a new future.

The SuperServer was destroyed in the present, which was actually the past for all the future beings.

No humans will use the MMHC since his past will not invent it.

In the new timeline, everything will be new.

But, what if, something goes wrong in between? What if the doctor again re-invents the server?

 

His thoughts were suddenly broken as his watch started blinking in red light.

The computer program which handled the time travel sequences was giving a RED signal to him to return in his present, OR, an altered present. Since no SuperServer will be invented, no time machine will be created, & there was a danger of AJ to be stuck in the past.

He was about to bounce back in his own time.

“Do not re-invent the server again, doctor…!” AJ said to his past, “Remember we have created the technology for our convenience, do not make it a necessity for the humanity’s survival. Create a Nature Friendly Environment for our future generations, where only nature will take care of the mankind’s health, & let’s put a control on the pollution we are causing now….!”

Suddenly, AJ felt himself getting sucked inside somewhere. In a moment, with a great whooshing sound, AJ got pulled inside himself.

Year 2200 A.D.

In a Transformed Future

 

In the last 25 years, pollution had reduced rapidly. Green House Effect & Industrialization had been taken under control. Every year, more trees were planted. Recycling of degradable products was done safely. New technology was continuously discovered, but nothing was overused. All of these factors had given birth to a new earth, more greens & more environment friendly habitat across the globe.

Advance Artificial Intelligence Cybernetics Technology (AAICT) was taking care of all these things, & it was headed by the great mastermind, Dr. Arthur James who was known worldwide as AJ.

“How’s your mind doctor...?” Dr. Evan asked.

“Don’t know, but sometimes I keep getting glimpses of some server, some sort of droids, some bacterial names…. I don’t know exactly what they are…!” Dr. AJ replied.

“Maybe you think a lot…!” Dr. Evan joked.

“No…. I’m just too awesome...!” Dr. AJ answered, smiling.
