Mr. Mike was murdered live while presenting his first quarterly business update to the stakeholders. It was late evening in India and early morning in Silicon Valley when the reports of murder spread like wildfire. A high-profile murder was executed with help of technology such that audience gets to see only hand and knife and not rest of the body of the murder. Case is being investigated by the best men and woman of the crime investigation department and from the initial investigation Samarth, team leader is convinced that the murderer was still in the office.

While Samarth and Pallavi were looking for clues in Mike’s office, other team members were busy interrogating few suspects.

Kamath, Suresh, and Das, each took a separate cabin/ office to speak turn by turn with those who were present at the office. All statements were video recorded by the team members.

Raghu, the housekeeping staff, he was the last known face to enter and exit from Mr. Mike’s office, “as usual I served the coffee and left the room. Mr. Mike was attending meeting, he did not react when I served coffee, guess it was important meeting. I was there for less than two minutes. There was no one else in the room. Mike was all alone.”

Rita, executive secretary of Mr. Mike, “I first met him 3 months back when he joined the company. He was workaholic, too busy with his work and least bothered about others. He was clear in his goals which was to improve financials of the organization at any cost. I never met Mike outside work. I know people were quite worried as Mike had a very brutal track record. He rarely left anything to the chance. I was in my office, watching Mr. Mike’s update and when I saw that hand with Knife, I could barely understand what was happening. My first and only reaction, I screamed ‘O My God’ and then I ran towards his office.”

Dhanush, he worked with Mike at Akash Top-tech, “I knew him for long, he was always aggressive daring to deliver at any cost. Frankly, I was not so happy when Mike joined the company but then I have lived these circumstances in past and I am sure that I can find a new job if I lose this one. So, no concerns as far as job was concerned. I was seated in cafeteria with few other friends, I only learned about the incident when me and my friends’ heard screams from office area.”

Shruthi, was HR Manager at RX technologies, “I was on my way to meat Rita for some work and that’s when I heard Rita scream and saw her run towards Mr. Mike’s office. I was confused but then followed her to Mike’s office. Since Rita’s office is nearest to the Mike’s office, she was the first one to reach there and then

I followed and then others joined.”

Arjun, IT expert he too had worked at RX technologies, “This is a small world. I rarely get into anyone’s bad books, you never know who your next boss will be so when Mr. Mike laid me off at RX I was ok, for me its part and parcel of my life. So Mr. Mike’s was someone whom I always disliked but never hated him. He worked in the interest of the company. I was in washroom when I heard some screams and that’s when I came out.”

Rajan, board of direct at current company, “Mike was fantastic, we got him on-board to improve the company’s financials. There was hardly anything about him which board of directors did not like. As straight and sharp as an arrow, he was brilliant at his work. It was our pleasure that he agreed to join the company.”

John, Chief Operating Officer, “Very sad to see him leave so early. I never imagined him to leave us in this manner and in such a short time. His killer must be hanged. Mike was an asset, and his untimely demise has created a void that will be very difficult to fill. I was in my office when at the time of murder and when I saw the gruesome murder live, I too like others rushed to Mike’s office.”

While the team was interviewing staff, Samarth along with Pallavi were busy looking at every nook and corner of Mike’s room.

“Pallavi, do you have answer to the puzzle? Who drank coffee between 18th and 25th minute?” old fox Samarth asked Pallavi

“No Samarth, I am still puzzled.” Pallavi was still confused

Samarth, “Well I guess I might have answer, but for now let’s go and hear from our friends. I hope they would have found something for us.”

While the staff was still restricted from moving out the office, a serious briefing took place among the members of the investigating team.

Samarth, “Looks like we have a story in hand. Suresh, please work on to see if we have phone call records of all the suspects from the telecom company. Let’s make this case fool proof, no stones to be left unturned. This is a high-profile case and I want to ensure that we have motive, plan, and execution details of the murderer in our hand in next few hours.

Next few hours, team spent time looking up at very possible communication from the key stakeholders, their movements, time they entered office and time they left office. Office and building CCTV camera recordings. Phone records and phone locations to understand any possible correlation.

Every murder has a story. Every murder story has a motive. Every motive behind a murder has returns. Investigation team knew the chain and they were on right track of investigation. It was now matter of time before the culprits face the justice.

Stay hooked, part II and final part will be published shortly. Meanwhile, let me know in comments who is your primary suspect and the motive behind the murderer. Let's see if we think alike.
