My mom's colleague's daughter, who was pursuing M.tech, was getting marriage proposals.

They finalised one guy without the knowledge of the girl.

The family of the groom-to-be visited their house and the day arrived where the girl's family had to visit the boy's family.

The boy's house was much bigger than expected and was filled with relatives who were rich and affluent in every term. The girl's family was happy, especially her parents for getting such a big family for their daughter. But she straightaway rejected the proposal.

Everybody was stunned.

Everybody ridiculed.

Everybody made fun of her choice.

But when her parents asked, her reply was, “Mom you know that dad has a hearing problem and that only wealth you guys have is your daughter's education. I don't want you guys to feel inferior in such a posh place. I want a guy who equals me. I saw the face of that boy's mother when you told about dad. I have decided then and there but didn't have the courage. Please forgive me but I can't do this.”

There was a glint of pride in the tears which came from her mom while she was narrating the whole incident, my mom said.
