“How much longer?” exclaimed George. He grew frustrated because business was slow that day. Nobody came to that house. It was a house across the street. This story still brings shivers down my spine till this day. Our small and humble cottage could no longer accommodate our family of four; my beautiful daughters Evangeline and Elise along with my husband Jason. “Hi, is this George Maxwell the real estate dealer? Yes, I’m looking for a house that could fit in four people? Alright, should I come in an hour? Thank You.” I spoke.
My husband told me we had to leave early as we had some errands to run for Elise. “Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Matthews! This is the luxurious mansion I was talking about. Let’s go in, shall we?” George gestured with a warm smile. The moment I stepped inside I could smell this awful stench that was all over the place. Still, I walked patiently. We arrived in the master bedroom. The first word that came to my mind was “Wow!” It was modern and contemporary. We were desperate and we had no time to look for more houses, besides we liked it. Moving in took about a month. But after we were done, I felt really relaxed.
That night while I was sleeping, I heard knocks on my bedroom door. I opened my eyes to see but couldn't get up. I could breathe and was sensitive to air moving around me but.... I couldn't move. I was paralysed. Soon, appeared a woman in white, her clothes moved freely along with the air, her hair was dark and thick. Her eyes were covered with a headdress she was wearing on her head. She whispered in my ear, “Amelia, If you don’t start packing up by tomorrow morning, all your precious family will be just a memory....” I was shocked, scared, afraid and everything in between! I tried to think it was just a dream and cried myself to sleep.
During the next month, I would receive frequent visits from my daughters in the middle of the night saying that “she” wouldn’t stop asking them to play with her. This happened every week. My husband too had paranormal experiences. He came back from work and found his wardrobe trashed and his car malfunctioning. My whole family heard knocks. I heard soft knocks, My daughters heard loud, manly knocks and my husband he heard rhythmic knocks. 1-2 1-2-3 1-2 1-2-3. We discussed it during breakfast and researched that a woman, Lady Blanche, who lived with her daughter Agnes, was burnt alive by villagers as people thought she was from a witching family.
Her daughter escaped to Africa but after working for three whole years as a slave, she died of starvation. We thought that we would no longer disturb the spirits and decided to leave the house. The next day, we started to pack up and move their belongings to our old and effacing cottage. We agreed that our cottage could accommodate all of us if we kept everything neat and organised. At least we were safe there.
