Love the colors, sweets, meeting with relatives & the entire festivities. I recollect memories of my childhood when everyone would come to visit us without any invitation. There used to be so much warmth in a relationship those days. The gesture of touching feet of elders & putting abir showed so much of respect, offering puas with dahi bara involved so much of affection & playing with colors proved ultimate friendship. All these ceremonies happen today as well but not with the same zeal.

I remember puas being made by my dadi, the preparation would start a day prior to it. Bananas were supposed to be extra ripe, dry fruits to be cut, extra milk to be boiled & cardamoms to be powdered. Puas were made in hundreds for everyone who would visit us, for giving to our Muslim neighbors & for the maids working in our house.

Baras were prepared a day before on agza day to be offered to the Fire God. They were dipped into dahi to make the delicious dahi baras with sweet tamarind chutney & roasted spices.

The day of Holi would begin with offering abir & puas to our Gods & Goddesses in our puja place followed by a sumptuous breakfast. And then playing with coloured water! My God such fun it used to be! Going to everyone's places , making them wet with all colors, hugging each other & eating sweets of all houses! The most funny part for us would be watching those elders who were intoxicated by bhang & would keep laughing continuously & repeating the same statements. And some of them would sing such melodious holi songs.

Evenings were more sober when we used to wear new white clothes & play with dry abir. It was a custom to go & touch all elders feet with a pinch of abir. They would give us some money as aashirvaad.

And last but best part was reaching school next day with everyone's lunch boxes filled with all kinds of savouries & chatting about how holi was celebrated.

No other festival is more festive than Holi!!
