Global warming and politics

Sometime back, I happened to participate in a forum on "Global warming and how to protect the environment". Ironically the event was held in a cool, cosy and comfortable atmosphere.
A well known politician was asked to give a keynote address. Well he took control of the mike and talked about politics, religion, secularism, communal harmony, caste, woman's rights, child abuse, and electoral reforms (all except the burning topic of interest for which all had assembled)
He then concluded his speech with the following remarks: " Ladies & Gentlemen,
let us all vow to protect the environment and save our planet "!
After he concluded his monotonous speech, there was a thunderous applause from the knowledgeable audience followed by a standing ovation. Can you guess why? Well, I guess it was for two reasons : (1) He remembered at least the slogan or topic of debate for which the forum was held and (2) He stood the test of the audience's patience and endurability
My last word: In India, we are more concerned about protecting our image than protecting our environment!!
